Last week our CEO and founder, Ashley Kern was the keynote speaker for Michigan Technological University’s 26th annual Student Leadership Awards (click link for video of the virtual ceremony).
As a class of ‘15 and ‘17 Michigan Tech alumna, Ashley illuminated what students may be feeling as they are nearing graduation and preparing for life after college. Highlighting her own personal struggles and accomplishments, she hoped to reassure students that they are not alone.
This is a particularly uncertain time for students, being displaced from normal routines and being off campus. As a student, it is important to focus on what you can do and what you are able to control during these challenging times. Ashley believes that during these times, students have the opportunity to learn how resilient and innovative they really are.
“I was asked to be the keynote speaker for this award ceremony before COVID-19 hit and I am so glad that I was chosen this year out of all others. I really wanted to address how difficult going through college can be, especially when you are hit with so many unexpected hurdles. I wanted to provide encouragement and some perspective for students who are knee deep in such a difficult semester.”
This is just one of the many ways that SightLine team members are actively participating in student success, even outside of their core SightLine duties!
